Sung straight from the heart is Jeff Engholm’s soulful of “Little Big Things”. Everything about the sound feels cinematic, as the rhythms fall into place with such ease. Lyrics here focus upon a life lived to the absolute fullest. The guitar work, his gentle croon, it all comes together in a gorgeous way. Instrumentally vibrant, he keeps the energy consistent throughout, opting for a kind ebb and flow to the sound. Quite spacious indeed, he lets the songs unfurl at their own pace, making taking in the small flourishes in the background a true joy to behold.

“I Can’t Look At You” sets the tone for what follows, featuring a wonderful polished perfection alongside glowing organ vamps. Things are pulled back a bit for the simply lovely intimacy of “Someday Soon” where he brings a bit of the Fleet Foxes’ honeyed bliss into the proceedings. A jazz-rock combination comes into the fray on the infinitely catchy grooves of “When It Began” where the song draws heavily from Jon Brion’s retro stylings. Reflection takes hold of the meditation of “Bluefin Bay”. Incredible guitar licks race to the forefront on the phenomenal rush of “Flipped”. Pastoral to its core is the breezy take of “Gathering For Winter” with its elegance radiating throughout the whole of the piece. Quite delicate the sounds ring off into the distance with the title track “Little Big Things”.

“Little Big Things” shows off Jeff Engholm’s impeccable chops in creating its own atmosphere.
