Gathering for Winter

We are gathering for Winter,

As the Sun turns down its flame.

We’re preparing for the long cold lonely days,

We have reaped the fruits of summer

And the Autumn’s final days

Have drifted by now only memories remain.

We have prepared a little nest for us to cozy in,

Four sturdy walls with insulation from the storm,

A simple world with simple gifts

No pain no strife, no broken rifts

It’s beautiful and wonderful

And it’s rarer than a unicorn…

We are gathering together

Some out of fear some out of strain.

There are times when friend must gather, come what may.

As the world keeps growing colder

We must protect what still remains

Of what is real and good and beautiful and strange.

But who knows what the future brings

We may get bit and feel the sting

Forsaken by the powers that will be

It’s hard to muster hope at times,

To find the words and make the rhymes

When nothing’s making sense and

There’s nothing left to read between the lines…

We are gathering for Winter,

As the Sun turns down its flame.

We’re preparing for the long cold lonely days,

As the world keeps growing colder

We must protect what still remains

Of what is real and good and beautiful and strange.

Mmm…. Ahh.
